The mountain is a local favorite for its steep terrain but also offers runs for all levels, including beginners. Snowmass is the largest of Aspen's four hills, with a total of more than 86 trails on 3,128 acres and a vertical rise of 4,406 feet. Found west of Aspen in Snowmass Village, this mountain boasts a total of 22 lifts including high-speed quad chairs, double chairs, magic carpets and beginner lifts. This area is considered family friendly and is a snowboarder's paradise. It has a Super Dragon half-pipe with miles of terrain park riding. Nine restaurant are available to skiers at Snowmass. Buttermilk is the smallest of Aspen's four ski mountains and is primarily geared towards easy and beginner runs. The mountain is also known for its terrain parks and pipes and has been a regular host of the Winter X Games. Free shuttle buses run between all four mountains and villages. Aspen's ski resorts include Snowmass, Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Highlands and Buttermilk.

Aspen Mountain, or Ajax as it's sometimes called by locals, is a serious mountain for serious skiers. There are no beginner runs on this mountain, with most of the runs labeled as more difficult, most difficult and expert. The mountain is best knowns for steep, bumpy runs for the more experienced to enjoy. Previously closed to snowboarders, Aspen Mountain now accommodates them on the hill as well. Five restaurants are located on the mountain.
